Secret Place, Sacred Space – a group and invitational exhibition of transformative, healing art created from the secret, sacred place within women – was juried by artists and founders of Survivor Circle, NFP, Lauren R. Mathews and Skye Enyeart. The exhibition, which features works by 32 artists in the group show and nine artists in the invitational portion of the show – opens April 8, 2005 with an artist reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at Woman Made Gallery.
Juror Statement: “When we began planning this exhibition we were afraid we wouldn’t get much interest in the theme. I am thrilled we were proved wrong. We realize we touched on a very important theme for women and we are honored to have had such a response with such incredible work from so many applicants. The skill, the vision, and the wisdom each woman put into the works submitted for this show was outstanding. In the end it came down to choosing work that struck a deep and familiar chord of healing from specific pain or loss by creating work that was confrontational, factual, or in memorial to the healing self. Skye and I thank all artists for their brave sharing of your beautiful art.” ~Lauren R. Mathews, February, 2005
