The exploration of adding, subtracting, and combing different found objects and artistic media serves as a
catalyst for the latest exhibition at Woman Made Gallery, “Some Assembly Required.” Juror Lauren
Levato, an accomplished painter, writer, and activist, stirred the imagination of many artists with the
question, “Do you juxtapose?” In response, artists from across the United States submitted work that
incorporates found objects such as scrabble letters, rocks and wire cages, while using sculptural, collage,
photographic and painting techniques to assemble their works.
With Egg 2, participating artist Elizabeth Featherstone Hoff employs elements such as clay, iron, and acrylic paint to create a whimsical assemblage piece. Featherstone Hoff writes, “I have always loved
mixed media work ever since I started making all sorts of things out of mud and anything else when I was little. I find it to be one of the most natural ways for me to create.”
