Woman Made Gallery is looking for mission-focused and energetic women-identifying and non-binary folks who are committed to social justice in the arts and are willing to lend a helping hand.

What we offer

Volunteering at WMG is an opportunity to find your people, take part in a creative and welcoming community and help make space for artists whose work and perspectives have historically been overlooked. You’ll work alongside artists, organizers, and fellow art-lovers who are building something real in Chicago’s feminist arts scene.

For those who have always been curious about the inner workings of a professional art gallery, this is a chance to experience its behind-the-scenes operations. 

By working with WMG, you will help sustain a Chicago arts organization that has been advancing the work of women and non-binary artists since 1992.

What you bring

Our volunteers include artists, students, arts professionals, longtime supporters, neighbors, and people simply looking for a more meaningful way to connect with Chicago’s creative community. 

You don’t need an art-world résumé but you will need to have a serious sense of enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment to join our team. Because our nonprofit depends on reliable and passionate volunteers to keep our mission moving forward.

Ways to get involved

Volunteer opportunities can be back or front-of-house, with everything from helping put up exhibitions, patching walls, welcoming visitors, coordinating workshops and more. What do you prefer to do and what are you really good at doing? Whatever it is, we need your help across the board:

  • Events (openings, closings, poetry readings, artist talks, panels): setup/breakdown, greeting guests
  • Change of show: packing/unpacking artwork, wall prep
  • Exhibition prep work: labels, name tags, folding brochures
  • Workshops: assisting instructors and participants
  • Annual fundraiser, Makers & Shakers Bash (Sept 18): check-in, silent auction, mystery bags, event prep, food & bev, cleanup, photography, event coordination
  • Research: data research about women and non-binary artists used for impact reports

We provide instructions and training for each job. Camaraderie is also included.
