Pieces of Me
charcoal

This piece developed during a period of my life when I was undergoing counseling at Harbor House, as a victim of domestic violence. Some may see this self-portrait as a woman falling apart. For me, it was a coming together of myself. The pieces slowly began to fall into place. I was becoming stronger, wiser, and more self-confident. I was taking a stance, stating that I could protect myself, and that I would not allow anyone to treat me with disrespect again. As an artist, I am amazed at the power art has to heal. My art has kept me sane through all the craziness and continues to help me grow in all areas of my life.
