Radiance

Description

With long historical significance, light has been the subject of artwork throughout a variety of cultures for centuries. This exhibition will focus on contemporary approaches and investigations into light in the broadest sense. Ranging from the historical use of light as allegorical subject matter in traditional religious painting, to the vernacular interiors and landscapes of the Dutch masters, the use of light is often employed to construct visual metaphor and imbue meaning in a given work. Optical uses of light by artists such as Flavin and Turrell have created space for a mode of investigation that explores the physical traits and properties of light as medium, rendering an intersection between medium and meaning, intellectual and emotional engagement.
