Stitches of Friendship
fiber, fabric
36 x 48 in.
My grandmother and her friends worked hard on the land of the Kikuyu people of Kenya. In the evenings they meditated on family, life, labor and their spirituality, while weaving and creating with fibers. From them I learnt how to be creative using fibers; and how to ease the labor of body and mind through friends. The threads in my work seek to maintain that timeless links with my grandmother and her friends; as well as the links in my own generation. Links that ease the inevitable labor of body and mind.
