ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m drawn to making work that repeats itself the way I repeat myself. I’m drawn to the tactility of working in fiber, whether through tufting, knotting, or weaving. I invite viewers to touch (or imagine touching, if the gallery prohibits touching artwork) my work, to trace their twined paths and find a moment of reflection and rest for themselves amidst external chaos and uncertainty.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jessica Ferrer is a Chicago-based artist and writer who explores forms of tacit knowledge and meditation through weaving, text, video, and sound. Some recurring questions in her work: How many ways can you know something? How many times? Her most recent body of work untangles feelings of betweenness and rejoins them into sites of familial beauty and remembrance. Jessica is a 2022-2023 HATCH Resident at Chicago Artists Coalition. Her work lives in the homes of friends, family, and acquaintances. It has also been shown in a few galleries and one library. Jessica received her BA in Studio Art and English from Kenyon College in 2017.
