Before the corona virus, when people could easily be with others– in public, in restaurants, in parks–more often than not they were on their phones texting, sending selfies, posting photos. While physically in a place they were separated from their surroundings as they focused eyes, thumbs and fingers on their screen and plugged ears with buds.
When coronavirus sent us to the safety of houses and apartments, we were limited to where we could go and what we could touch. We then turned to those same screens that used to separate us to find ways to connect and share experiences.
After weeks of nesting inside, we began to look beyond cellphones and TVs for tactile and visual experiences that transcended two dimensions and beveled edges.
This Call for Art coincides with a cancelled flight to a birding sanctuary and the chance to stand in a forest watching birds in flight, freely in congress with other birds.
