CHICAGO – Woman Made Gallery (WMG) is pleased to present “Moments Like This,” a group exhibition juried by Jessica Bingham featuring the work of 42 women and non-binary artists exploring the need to pause, process what we have collectively gone through in the last two years, and move at the speed of humanity rather than the speed of production.
In her jurors’ statement, Jessica Bingham writes: “The women and non-binary artists in this exhibition are healers, caretakers, activists, collectors, and noticers—they shine a light on the moments that we often are too busy to cherish or learn from. The stories that inform the work in Moments Like This pierced my soul and made it abundantly clear that the slow movement has made significant waves in our fast-past society. It is also evident that the pandemic and fight for social justice in our country has influenced the work of every single artist in this exhibition. From having time to be present with oneself to illustrating the emotional weight we carry to the empowerment of our collective voices, these artists passionately and carefully ask us to pause and reflect with them. Some of these artists have been implementing slow living for many years, while others have recently rediscovered their self-worth through questioning ideas of “success”—all of which tap into the gravity of well-being. Through their vast practices, including time-based methods, quilting, painting, installation, collecting, and video, they challenge the norm of productivity, power, and presence.”
