ARTIST STATEMENT
My piece reflects the spirit of people undeterred by the words and actions of our current president and his administration. We are expressing our opinions clearly and on multiple fronts – through voting, protesting, education and living our lives as ourselves. It doesn’t matter what they call us or how they try to limit us, we’ll continue to make ourselves heard. Our numbers are growing daily and together, we are their worst nightmare.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was born in Washington DC during the Civil Rights movement and thus was surrounded by politics from an early age. I would ride the bus past the White House daily and there were often protests across the street at Lafayette Park. And as a young child, I attended school near the H Street corridor during the Martin Luther King Jr. riots of 1968 – one of the main sites of looting, fires and the presence of the National Guard. I am also the child of immigrants and this particular period in our country’s history saddens me.
I went to art school for textile design and worked for a time with Interior Design and Architectural firms. I’ve since rededicated myself to working in art – primarily textiles, paper mache and collage. I currently live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and have shown my work in the Mid Atlantic region.
