ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece was created in 2021 as a means of grounding myself and processing difficult emotions related to work stress I experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a practicing art therapist, I strongly believe that art is healing and I rely on it as a main coping skill when I’m experiencing emotional distress. Both the technical aspects of drawing and painting, which I engage in as a mindfulness activity, and the ability to use art to externalize inner emotional states, are life saving for me. Just One Of Those Days!! was a quick doodle at my desk that I created to express how I was feeling after a difficult work week. Although stress and mental exhaustion make it difficult for me to engage in my personal art marking as much as I would like to, I treat my art practice similar to working out- a difficult but essential part of my week, even if it’s just a short walk/small sketch. Both things are vital for my health and wellbeing.
