Ho’okipa
silk carving
46 x 16 x 2 in.
“Ho’okipa” is the most famous surfing spot on Maui and one of the most spectacular places in the world.
The inspiration for this piece came from the fascination for the huge waves. Drawn into their beauty you can feel the deadliness and threat at the same time.
This fiber piece has been created with a technique called “silk carving©”. The surface of the fiber is transformed completely into a relief. The upper layer of these pieces is made from one single piece of silk – nothing has been added on top to create the sculptured surface. Only paints have been additionally used to emphasize the visual impression of distance.
