“There may be few things as disquieting for women as feeling a sense of menace in an intimate or otherwise safe space such as a bedroom, kitchen, or laundry. Prolong the feeling and even vision can feel disturbed. The normal perspectives or stabilities don’t apply.
Feeling oppressed, confined, vulnerable, you may begin to doubt normal reality or suddenly see an underlying reality that normality had obscured. The Covid 19 crisis and stay “safe” at home orders account for the current dissonance. But of course, women artists have always made interior disturbances manifest in their work.”
