I went to the circus for an infusion of playful energy for my paintings. What I found was much more. The elegant forms of the acrobats, dramatic lighting and brightly colored costumes became new subjects for my work. But, for me, the revelation in these paintings lies in the rendering. The playful excitement and joy of the children in the audience rose in me as I worked through my sketches from the performances. The infectious joy of happy children (and their parents) suffused my creative process, releasing the playful joy in my work.
