The Uses of Enchantment

Deeply embedded into the child’s life and imagination is the role of the fairy tale. In these works, I have sought to recreate the narratives of fairy and folk tales that I knew as a child.

The delight that we experience when we allow ourselves to respond to a fairy tale, the enchantment we feel comes not from the psychological meaning of a tale (although this contributes to it) but from its literary qualities-the tale itself as a work of art. Bruno Bettelheim.
