Untitled I
video
I work in experimental video and video installation. Untitled I is my early video work dealing with identity trapped in written language, which ceaselessly controls our way of thinking and behaving. The words shown in this video are what society commonly uses to define who I am; my name, nationality, place of birth, occupation, beliefs, interests. Although these words form important aspects of my identity, they often conflict with how I define myself, leaving the question: what makes me who I really am? In Untitled I, I cut these defining words from paper and projected them onto my body. The resulting shadows appear as if they are tattoos covering my skin. I find the process of making art as a means of exploring deeper my own self-hood, through visualizing abnormal metaphors or performative actions.
