My work focuses on the landscapes of anthropocene, specifically the limestone quarries that are ubiquitous in Southern Indiana. Stone formed over hundreds of millions of years has been carved into enormous blocks and then cast aside, often onto massive piles of rubble, creating a landscape that is bizarre, often treacherous, and yet strangely beautiful even in its ruination. For every glorious cathedral or skyscraper we build, there is a corresponding scar in the bedrock. I paint the remains of the landscape, even as nature rushes in to reclaim it and make it part of something new.
