My work is about the echoes of maternal influences that shape us. I reference handiwork, craft and floral decor to reconcile how our early childhood memories in our homes affect us later in life. I explore themes of covering shame, hiding sexuality, denying trauma, experiencing loss and other anxieties that seem to tug at the forward momentum of life.
Materials such as lint and lace exist alongside paint. The fibers reflect the search for comfort and solace and the lace represent the expectations put upon us as women. The varied marks capture uneven temperaments pulled by toxic states of being.
