ARTIST STATEMENT
In my practice, I utilize automatic drawing to generate images, and then these images become starting places for further exploration into my own unconscious. Through loose gesture and intuitive drawing, I allow for feeling to take precedence over accurate representation. With these works, I am primarily concerned with the language of vulnerability. I have primarily been working with the myth of the Minotaur to explore my relationship with motherhood, Sexuality, and nurturing. The Minotaur acts both as a self-portrait and a representation of my unconsciousness. Primarily inspired by the Surrealists’ interest in the Minotaur, I find it to be an interesting and reflective representation of our unconscious minds. The beast is not something to be feared or pushed aside; it is to be acknowledged and accepted.
