Community Prayer (2020)
digital and mixed media on cardboard
variable print
$250

Spirituality and Catholicism have always been present in my life, but I’ve noticed how the practice of prayer has become emphasized in my community recently. Our safe spaces and day-to-day practices have changed and/or disappeared with the stay at home order. A woman’s role as a domestic worker–housewife has become an emphasis, and many women within the Latinx community face danger within their own home. Families face sickness and death, with the lack of privilege that others have, being able to stay and work from home. My work focuses on the experiences of women and families during this time, what “Home” means to us, what routines come with the definition of “Home” during a pandemic, and how the practice of spirituality is present now more than ever.
