Jael Kills Sisera
stitched monoprint-ink, pencil, threads and gold leaf on rag paper
15 x 11 in.
I look mostly at skin and the interior of the torso, where life, as breath, begins and ends; if I am not looking directly at the area of lungs and heart, I see the animation of breath and love in the human form. For “Between the Seams” I have punctured monoprints (printed on rag/cloth paper) with the stories of Biblical women and then stitched their memory into the paper with gold, silver and silk threads. Their story is gilded with gold or copper leaf. My intention is to share history, the image, and texture and to invite the viewer into the sensation of the sacred place where we create art.
