What I Did/n’t Do on My Summer Vacation
graphite
16 x 20 in.

The history of a land called Ethiopia, the eyes of Haile Selassie, the noble noses of the men of my family, the stories from my grandfather of a proud and resilient family of a proud and resilient race, the double “H” construction of my father’s name, the swirling cursive of my mother’s hand, the iconography in our parish church – all fueled a life long fascination and love for the sacred, for race, for beauty…poured the foundation for the pylons of who I am as artist, as woman.
