The Ladies Room
gelatin silver print
4 x 5 in.

These works convey my reaction to the traumatic experience of being an Asian American female immigrant coming in the US. Sadness, shame, anger, isolation and vulnerability overwhelmed me. These emotions emerge in my work. Being naked is a silent protest to a society that is both puritanical and binary. Ultimately, these works empowered me. They helped me overcome the traumatic experience by showing me what my alternative role could be as an Asian American female artist.
