ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece depicts the inevitable fall of the patriarchy in the form of a fallen angel who descends into the fires set by the phoenix rising. The phoenix represents the anticipated and needed rise of the matriarchy. She brings lush greenery to the land providing a safe haven for the elementals. She leads a new world for us all, no longer fearing what man takes as his own and destroys. This acrylic painting was created in the summer of 2025 in the midst of fighting for my freedom from the hands of an abusive man and while navigating the loss of freedom as a woman in the US. It was a way to escape and transmute the heavy emotions taking over. I can only look at this with pride, knowing that we will rise from this. Not just me but all women, queer people and Trans folk. They will not keep us down. They will not take our freedom.

Living in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, Brooke Elizabeth, is a self taught visual artist with over 15 years of experience focusing on acrylic painting, colored pencil and charcoal drawings.
