ARTIST STATEMENT
Through figurative painting, my work addresses the intimacy of understanding oneself. I want to build the imagery of identity and sexuality; all while capturing vulnerability and fear. Being a black woman having to experience the duality of being hyper visible and invisible.
I replace skin tone with blue tones up against the warm reds. The monochromatic palette is a rather simple way to convey a complex figure.
