ARTIST STATEMENT
Ledesma is a Latin-American professional artist, writer, and clinician in a solo practice from Buenos Aires, Argentina based in Chicago, IL. Her work is deeply rooted in the surrealist tradition striving to explore themes of emotions, spirituality and symbolism in ordinary object and in human life experience, delving into the depths of the unconscious mind and the world of our dreams.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ledesma obtained a masters degree in fine arts and art therapy from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1988). Her interest in psychoanalysis and art for healing motivated her to obtain a doctoral degree (2009) focusing on the use of art-making in clinical treatment of adults. Her extensive exhibition record includes numerous solo and group shows in galleries and museums nationally and internationally. Ledesma has curated, organized, and participated in several collaborations with dancers, printmakers, ceramists, musicians. such as “Argentina Meets Chicago-Todos Estamos en Transit” (UNMA, 2024), “Incantation” (1997 @ Links Hall Studio), “Toward Diane Arbus” (1993, Randolph Street Gallery), “Madrid & Chicago” (2004), “Symbolic Visions” (1994), “ARTicipate” (1992). In 2011, she was invited to participate in the First International Art Conference in Kingston, Jamaica by presenting a collaborative work: art- music “Spiritual Resonances” ( www.spiritualresonances.com ) in conjunction with a solo exhibit by the same name. Her first book “Mandalas: A Personal and Visual Journey into Mandala Journaling” was recently published focusing on the history and symbolism of mandalas, offering an introspective approach to mandala drawing and journaling and sharing her own healing journey through art making and the accompany workbook “From the Center”. Ledesma is a member of Women Made Gallery in Chicago, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, Morbid Anatomy/NYC, the Worldwide Women’s Association. Her work is represented by Viridian Contemporary Arts/NYC.
