ARTIST STATEMENT
For the last several years, protest has been the foundation of my paintings. I am looking at the commonality of place, even as I remove the specifics of any one location. The paintings depict what lingers in the air, often smoke or tear gas mixed with debris, creating a backdrop for the movement. In this case, the smoke mingling with green flares signaled the cry once again for equality and bodily autonomy.
