Sean/Survivor Pearl Island
jacquard weaving from video capture
The works in this series are hand woven on a jacquard loom, and are derived from imagery video-captured from television. As such, they represent faces, and expressions, never intended for woven investigation. The process of weaving further slows down the still-motion frame, as the image builds line by line.
Sean is being interviewed about his trials as an island survivor/competitor on the reality-tv program, Survivor, just prior to returning to his real life in New York City.
Anger, compassion, awe, deceit, contempt, fear, disgust, surprise, distress: I am interested in what the emotive face reveals, in these known situations, when reduced to woven abstraction.
