My paintings represent survival and the conflict of pain while portraying a sense of beauty and the will to live that is also inherent in the struggle with painful illnesses. At times considered controversial and compelling in subject matter, my experiences and fears appear on canvas-the battle from losing ones’ breasts to creating a surgically reconstructed life.
When someone starts a conversation with “When I had breast cancer” or “Can I give you a hug?” I know my paintings are successful. If I’d never been ill, I’d have never slowed down to discover the gift to paint.
