ARTIST STATEMENT
Solitude
Seniors are fading away from consciousness like the misty veil of early morning fog. Overlooked in our fast-paced, youth-based society, their presence faint and fleeting, they become invisible. Feelings of isolation and insignificance often occur rather than taking advantage of their many years of life experience and knowledge. These figures are intentionally blurred and faded into a cool blue foreground where the subjects no longer appear vibrant and alive.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
After graduating with a degree in photojournalism in 1998, Susan Leith started her 20+ year photographic career as a corporate photographer. Her love for photography has led her to photograph everything and anything she finds interesting. Susan moved to Chicago in 2017 after retiring from teaching photography at California State University in 2015. She has also combined her photographic and artistic skills into the realm of Photo Encaustic art – a combination of photography, etching, and painting captured in encaustic wax, while still continuing to photography.
