ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece is about growing into my identity as a queer person of color but told through the making and eating of an egg. Also I’m the egg.
A poem written around the exterior depicts the visceral sensations that bubble up with new experiences of egg-eating.
Silky crack
Snapped open
Tap
Tap
Tap
Big plop
Little drop
Puddles held run
Between fingers
Leave a glistening trail
Slow drip sticks
Lick
Swipe, dip
Tacky paste
Dries flakes
Cracks corners of lips
Rubbery whites yoke
Liquid gold
Velvet crust
Of hidden lust
Unseen
Realizes touch
