The agrarian and coal mining culture of Appalachia, in North Central West Virginia, where my ancestors have lived for generations, has inspired my work. My experiences and personal history have provided me with a firsthand view of mining communities and the culture of this specific region.
My paintings range from figurative to abstract, frequently drawing from regional history, the natural world, industry, and family memories. My encaustic process is slow, deliberate, and draws from time and place.
