ARTIST STATEMENT
Prolapse is a condition of displacement as a result of trauma (too much, too soon, too fast). My work titled “Prolapse” represents a collectively hoarded baggage of anxiety about rapidly changing means of production. Prolapse is also an empty, porous, and absorbent vessel, shaped and sized to envelop the artist.
I enjoy fabric as a medium because of its intimate relationship with the body. Working with fabric, I feel a tangible sense of connection to maternal generations past and to present community. I’m compelled to work with secondhand fabrics because the glut we’ve created must be reckoned with.
