I use art as an exploratory activity, with an aim to define and document what it means to me to live in my specific time and place. My work is representational of the ubiquitous shapes and forms that comprise the visual elements of my surroundings. I alter the image to enhance some aspects or downplay others to achieve the aesthetics that will communicate a resonance that I find in the subject matter. My application of paint is meant to emphasize the painting as a physical object, attending to the direct connection of the work to my sense of touch and how it’s recorded on the surface of my paintings and drawings.
