The Scent of One’s Young
oil on rives paper
16 x 15 in.

The images depicted in my work are derived from remembered traumatic occurrences. The domestic spaces where violence, or a death, has occurred are re-created and made benign, through their seemingly innocent simulation in paint or ink. Being suspicious of the purely aesthetic experience, I embrace that which is abject either hidden within the picture plane, or existing in tandem with that which is considered beautiful. The viewer is invited into the friendly spaces only to find that all is not well in there.
