ABOUT THE ARTIST
Although she grew up in the Chicago area, Nora now divides her time between the city and her Wisconsin home where she is an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Nation. Unaware of her Ojibwe heritage until 1983, discovering Wisconsin relatives and connecting with Chicago’s Native community has been a cultural revelation, steering much of her artistic journey with photography.
Nora often combines her interest in history with photography projects including an ongoing work-in- progress photo documentation of elders in Chicago’s American Indian community. Locally, her work has been shown at The Block Museum of Art, Field Museum, Chicago History Museum, Illinois State Museum gallery locations, Cahokia Mounds Museum and Woman Made Gallery. She also exhibited at Museo Nacional de Etnografia Y Folklore in Bolivia and Museum Nacional de Arqueologia & Etnologia de Guatemala.
In addition to participating in activities with Chicago’s Native American community and expanding creative outlets for her photography, Nora now fills her time rescuing injured & sick raptors — hawks, owls, falcons, eagles.
