ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ngozi Akande is a Nigerian distinguished artist and ardent advocate for women’s rights and empowerment, using her art as a powerful platform for social change. She is a dedicated mentor to young artists, women, and children, actively fostering their development through art workshops, school career talks, and organizing art competitions for both boys and girls. Notably, she conducted an art workshop for children at the World Children’s Festival in July 2015, held at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.
Co-Founder and former President of the Female Artists Association of Nigeria (FEAAN), Ngozi has significantly influenced the lives of women through innovative programs and initiatives. During her seven-year tenure as president, her participatory art projects—aimed at raising awareness of gender-based violence—garnered widespread public recognition. She proudly represented Nigeria at the UNESCO Andorra Art Camp for Peace, ranking at the top among African participants.
Throughout her career, Ngozi has received numerous accolades, including the FRCN Rare Gem Award for mentorship in 2016 and the Lagos Ambassador Award in 2017, in recognition of her contributions to promoting and sustaining the arts in Nigeria. Her artwork, such as the pastel piece “Life First Food,” was used by the World Health Organization as a campaign image for exclusive breastfeeding in Nigerian hospitals from 1992 to 2002.
Educationally, Ngozi holds a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Ph.D. degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria . Her multifaceted career continues to inspire many, shaping both the artistic and social landscapes in Nigeria and beyond. She has participated in numerous exhibitions nationally and internationally.

– Former Director Arts and Crafts at the National Council for Arts and Culture.
