Michelle-Renee Perkins
Michelle Renee Perkins is a life-long artist and educator. Originally from Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Perkins received a B.A. from Hampton University and a M.F.A. in Painting from Howard University. Presently, she resides in Chicago and is Assistant Professor of Art at Malcolm X College, City Colleges of Chicago. As an artist and image-maker, Perkins attempts to expand the viewer’s perception of specific aspects of her life’s journey through her use of various materials and subject matter. The two portraits in this exhibition reflect the essence of the visual conversations which occur between the artist and the model. Each piece was composed as a one or two-day study to achieve an impression of the model. Ultimately, this experience was an exercise in observing the multi-tiered facets of friendship and womanhood.
