The Dolls
SX-70 Polaroid photos on glass with varnish and acrylic
4 x 29 in.
I’m 47 years old and, yes, I still play with dolls. I can’t help it. There’s something about them that just draws me to them. More often than not, “grown-ups” are put off by my dolls– they bring too much of their own baggage and see sinister things in them, which I did not intend. I see them as a playful way to call attention to the human condition. Recently, some of my dolls were in a show, and I saw a little girl (maybe 7 or 8) go from pedestal to pedestal, laughing delightedly. She “got” it. That was so gratifying.
