“I thought it was time we saw more grey hair in art, and the women here all have it (except for the one with the grey hat). Despite, or because of, their maturity they are involving themselves in some complicated and intertwined relationships. The title gives a clue.”
Mary King has been creating a visual diary for 25 years featuring people she knows or imagines. She has never run out of something to say regarding people and how they relate and has not restrained herself from recording any difficulty people might be having. King has had 4 solo shows in New York and 2 in Chicago. Other solo exhibitions were in Naperville, Illinois, and in Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor, Saugatuck and Battle Creek, Michigan. King regularly exhibits her work at Denise Bibro Fine Art in New York, Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, and Sherry Washington Gallery in Detroit. King’s work is included in the collections of Western Michigan University, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, The Battle Creek Art Center, The Michigan Education Association, and The Anderson Fine Arts Center of Anderson, Indiana. King earned a BFA at The University of Chicago and an MA at Western Michigan University where her work was recently featured in the Distinguished Alumni exhibition at the new Richmond Art Center. King lives and works in Hyde Park in Chicago.
