I began the Ghost Trees project in (2014). I brought a series of porcelain “ghost trees” to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where the clear-pine used in my building presumably grew. This past summer, the trees were brought full circle to Finland, from where many of upper Michigan’s loggers emigrated. In this iteration, small wall reliefs include detail photographs of the outdoor installation I completed at the Oranki Environmental Art Park in Finnish Lapland as well as of dead Lapland pine trees. While woodwork is no longer an element, the ghostly spirit of the fallen trees remains present and visible.
