ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a feminist sculptor committed to raising awareness and initiating discussion about women’s health and well-being in society. I create original hand-carved sculptures in stone and bone, and use 3D scanning, 3D printing, and casting to create sculptural jewellery. By this means I raise awareness of issues such as sexual abuse, period poverty and abortion rights. I donate a minimum of 10% of the sale of my jewellery to charities working to address these issues.
These earrings derive from my stone sculpture entitled ‘The Healing Touch’. The original motivation was as as symbol of love and reconciliation with my body after physical abuse. However the reversal of Roe vs Wade has given the gesture renewed meaning.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I am a British sculptor whose outspoken contemporary artwork is rooted in the study of ancient artefacts and ecclesiastical imagery. I worked anonymously for 25 years in the fine-craft section of the stonecarving trade working on prestigious historic reconstructions and bespoke memorials.
I found my voice as a feminist sculptor 3 years ago after successfully bringing a #MeToo case to court. After years of silence I began to speak publicly about women’s right to body autonomy and wellbeing. These themes are reflected in my bold stone sculptures and sculptural jewellery.
My very personal feminist artwork is now publicly exhibited and in private collections in Britain, America, Europe and Australia.
