Hidden Star
oil on canvas
22 x 14 in.

I never know what a painting will look like before I begin. A work starts from nothing, a blank canvas. Every action then creates a reaction. My work is a dialogue with and between process and image, and organic against geometric. Working with wood, oil, wax, chalk, linen, board and paper in a scraping away and adding on process, earlier layers create a history, a pentimento effect.

I often begin with a grid and proceed to dismantle and obliterate. The grid is there in memory. The work references symbols from the unconscious which assert their own logic, presence and character. Lately my work begun to suggest The Star of David, as an abstraction, and as a personal symbol of who I am.
