Laura is a contemporary artist working from social memory. Her work addresses historical and contemporary social manifestations and issues. Visual conversations relating to women, perceptions of femininity, changing social and cultural landscapes dominate her practice. This work highlights her approach, utilizing an image of her original castings from the Not So Fragile series. Her foundry background, photography, mixed media and painting combine to utilize all mediums. Her public art projects have led to an emphasis on sculpture, large format photography and mixed media works. Social engagement is one of the current focuses of her visual practice with a traveling large format sculpture project: The Art In The Everyday Community Quilt Project in which she ties the familial and documentary components of women’s work into a quilt format – participants explore mixed media approaches.
