ARTIST STATEMENT
My love of pottery has been a lifelong journey, beginning in my teens and evolving through the decades of exploration in painting, glazing, and firing techniques. Each piece I create is a surprise-a discovery of color, form and texture born through fire and heat a 2000 -degree kiln.
I blend my background in painting and drawing with the elemental process of ceramics. Whether it’s a bowl, plate or a sculpture, I aim to create artwork that is both functional and visually captivating. Some pieces are meant for everyday use; other’s are for display-but all are one-of-a-kind expressions of my creative journey.
From a raw lump of clay-terra cotta, porcelain, or stoneware-I knead throw, shape, and fire each piece by hand. The physical process grounds me, and transformation that occurs in the kiln continues to amaze me. No two pieces are ever the same, and that unpredictability is what excites me every time I open a new bag of clay. Potter is my way of turning earth into art-something to be held, used and cherished. It’s the joy of creating lasting beauty from simple, humble beginnings.
