The absence of the interactions that give us purpose — a meeting with friends (or strangers), a shared meal, a social event – causes one to relive memories of such in hyperbolic ways. In my work the somewhat commonplace depictions of such scenes that comprise relationships are in heightened color and texture; the brush strokes juxtapose the motion and lightness of gestures within the solidarity of a surrounding environment to convey the intimacy and importance of the act of gathering – sharing and creating space for one another.
