ARTIST STATEMENT
I paint as an expression of my visceral desire to create an image of how I feel in the fullness of the moment. Our emotions provoke me to visually express them in all the variations we all experience.
Striving in each gestural abstract to achieve simplicity, my ongoing journey is to capture and embrace the spirit, thereby allowing the viewer to join and live it in the moment.
Alcohol ink is fluid, vivid and has motion. It can be translucent or opaque. The spontaneity of alcohol ink moves me forward as I create each piece. Reverse painting on plexiglass and glass absolutely challenges and fascinates me. On the other hand, painting on paper and canvas is a welcome change.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Katy Bishop is a contemporary abstract painter based in the California. Her gestural abstract artwork is characterized by bold, expressive and vibrant use of color. Katy’s early art education at the Art Institute of Chicago on a high school scholarship began her pathway to use the arts to enhance other’s lives and her own.
Many of her paintings offer a unique interpretation of the natural world through abstraction, with shapes and patterns that evoke the movement and energy of the natural world.
In addition, Katy Bishop is known for her use of alcohol ink in reverse painting on plexiglass and glass. This involves painting on the back of a clear surface, which allows the viewer to see the image in reverse.
These techniques add to the distinctiveness of Bishop’s artwork, creating a visual experience that is both intricate and harmonious. Her artworks demonstrate her willingness to experiment with different materials and techniques and highlight her ability to create striking and engaging pieces.
She is represented in Los Angeles by TAG Gallery, and by MEGA Gallery in Rome, Italy.
