Ageless Beauty I
photo/digital print
16 x 20 in.
Women spend a great deal of time attempting to alter their appearance, deconstructing and then reconstructing new identities, crossing over at times into obsession. In my work I confront the illusions and realities of women becoming “beautiful.” The images are based on real women engaged in changing their outward appearance, caught in what is usually a private activity. Through these representations we see the extent to which women will go to recreate themselves. This is so deep rooted in our contemporary culture that we find there is no age limit on this process – girls and women of all ages struggle with this and use beauty as an answer to all their problems.
