ARTIST STATEMENT
Judith Mogul is a Tennessee-based artist and educator whose creative practice spans a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, relief and stop motion animation. Her work is deeply influenced by the physical and social environments she inhabits and explores during her travels. Beginning with direct observation and the excitement of seeing, Mogul develops her visual concepts organically, allowing the work itself to guide her. She is drawn to materials that best convey her imagery, often incorporating non-traditional elements such as found objects and repurposed paintings and drawings. The dialogue between the materials themselves become a vital aspect of each piece. Mogul holds an MFA from the University of Georgia and a BS in Art Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz. Beyond her teaching career, she has gained experience in diverse fields, including fashion illustration, visual merchandising and costume design. Her artwork is featured in private and public art collections across the United States, and her commission work includes numerous public mural projects. For the past 14 years, Mogul has served as the Visual Arts Coordinator at AIM Center in Chattanooga, TN, where she established and developed an innovative art program for adults living with severe mental Illness.
