My grandmother was part of a dance troop of girls in the 1930’s performing stage shows in Chicago night clubs. One of the acts entailed dancing while balanced on large decorated balls. In her scrapbook of photos it was this image – the smiling girls holding steady, poised on the daunting sequined props  – that struck me most and inspired my recent work.
